Because why not, right? I'm not so sure about the middle bit, but the beginning and end are pretty much exactly how I tend to roll when it comes to fic I like to read:
My List )

As a multi-fandom shipper, I think these could be moved around quite a lot depending on the pairing I'm thinking about, but for general fic-reading preferences, these are pretty much right on the money. I don't have a single pairing where Actually Unrequited Pining is a kink for me, and I would read a Trapped in an Elevator fic for ships I don't even ship, haha! Creature!fics and A/B/O and Role Reversal are right down at the bottom, because I'll admit that it would take a lot to get me to read one of these by choice (seriously, only glowing recs will do it). I think it's probably easy to see by my top five that flangst is probably where I live when it comes to fic-reading. Is anybody really surprised by this, though? ;)

This was fun! I shall go around reading others' answers later, and see what we have/don't have in common, because that's always interesting to me!

I was tagged by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] besamislabios! I'm going to try and think of things that aren't obvious, because everyone already knows that things like my family, friends, and reading stuffs make me happy :D

  1. Summer. It's like I need sun in my life to feel good about everything, you know? Like today, I haven't slept in almost 3 days, I have a cough that keeps threatening to bring up a lung every thirty seconds, and my head is pounding. But, it's the hottest day of the year so far, and all I feel is happy. The sun is shining, the garden looks beautiful, and I just feel so great. Summer, it just does stuff to me!

  2. Music. I'm the kind of person who always has music playing in the background. Sometimes it's the kind of stuff I like the most, rock bands and the like, but sometimes I like listening to anything I can get my hands on. I just love it.

  3. TV series rewatches. Every so often, I just want to watch something I already know off by heart, and just sink into it. Most recently, I've rewatched Stargate: SG1, Stargate: Atlantis, and House; M.D. I'm thinking Buffy the Vampire Slayer might be next on my list...

  4. Sleeping. I love sleep, can't get enough of it. I would grab myself a nap every afternoon if I could.

  5. Cooking and getting it right. I'm a fairly mediocre cook, although that's probably because I never bother with stuff like weighing and timing, you know, the important stuff. But sometimes it doesn't matter, and I manage to produce something perfect. On Saturday, we took the kids strawberry picking, and managed to come home with 5kg of the bloody things. So I made jam, which is something I've never done before. I didn't bother looking for a recipe, and yet still it came out PERFECT. I was so shocked and happy, I immediately called my mother to show off, because she's always had problems getting strawberry jam to set. So yeah, that was fun, and it made me very happy!

Um, I'm pretty sure that almost everybody on my flist has already been tagged to do this, so instead, how about anybody who hasn't and wants to jump on, do it and say I tagged you?
lauren3210: (merthur)
Because everyone is doing it and it looks like fun and I'm bored, so why not? Get as personal or as random as you like, y'all know how I love to share :D
lauren3210: (Default)
Because everyone else is doing it, and I'm taking a break from betaing, so why not? Shamelessly stolen from absolutely everyone, but mainly [livejournal.com profile] kitty_fic, because she did it first. (At least on my flist, anyway.)

Ah yeah, have a peek into my particular brand of crazy, it's such fun being me sometimes, haha! Love you all, my flisters! <3

Day 8: Three words you can't go a day without

I'm switching this just slightly to 3 phrases I say every day

  1. Oh my God

  2. Jesus fucking Christ

  3. I love you

So, 2 curses and a gesture of love, I think that describes me pretty well, haha! I swear all the time, I can't help it, and JFC is my go-to phrase for when I get even a little pissed off. OMG is used for anything from "oh hey wow you did so well on that test!" to "oooh yeah this bed is so comfy!" And then I say ILY to my kids every day, and Ben too. I'm not an easy toucher - I have to work myself up to initiating any kind of physical contact - so a kiss on the forehead and telling them I love them before they go to bed at night is the easiest way for me to let my babies know how much I adore them, even if I can't always show it. And they understand, which is good. They also understand that under no circumstances are they to ever repeat the swearwords I use every day, which is also good, haha!

Day 7: Four memories you won't forget

  1. Giving birth to my babies. Each moment was filled with agony, terror, confusion, and happiness - and the odd laugh - and I will never forget a second of any of them.

  2. The day my grandfather died. I remember where I was standing, what I was wearing, what my mum was wearing, the way the sun slanted through the window, every single detail as though it happened a second ago. It was my first experience with death at an age where I could truly understand what it meant, and I'll never forget it.

  3. That time my friend walked into a patio door. God, you had to be there, but it was the funniest thing. My friend Rhys had gone to his car to get some tapes (showing my age there) and I was cold so Mark shut the patio door. Then we both turned around just in time to see Rhys walking back across the lawn with his hands full of cassettes, look up and smile at us, and then slam straight into the door. Tapes went flying, Rhys fell backwards into a bush with his glasses all askew, and Mark and I were paralysed with laughter so much that we couldn't do anything to help. Best teenage memory I have tbh.

  4. My first time in a psychiatric hospital. I have been admitted onto psychiatric wards a lot since my teenage years, and my stays have all blurred together over time. But I'll always remember how I felt that first time, how calm I was, how the conflicting thoughts in my head were just... quiet, for the first time that I could ever remember. It was new, and it was scary, but at the same time it felt like such a relief, to not have to pretend, to just set aside that pressure I had felt all of my life until that point. To know that it was okay to break, because that's what I was there for. Those two weeks were the calmest my head has ever been, and when my therapists tell me to imagine a safe space during my sessions, I go back to that time, maybe just to make sure that I never forget it.

Day 6: Five things you can't live without.

  1. Stories. I have to read, I have to. I don't know what my life would be without stories.

  2. My girls. It may sound bad, but I could live without Ben. I wouldn't want to, but I could. But I need my babies, they're my everything.

  3. My little brother. I have two older brothers and two older sisters, but my baby brother is more like a son to me. I adore him, and I would kill anyone who threatened him without prejudice.

  4. My mum. She drives me nuts, but I love her so much. She is the most precious thing in the world.

  5. My mind. Ever heard that dilemma, would you rather be dumb but beautiful, or ugly and smart ? Well, I choose my brains, and to lose them would be the worst thing in the world. Take away my ability to walk, to talk, anything, but please God don't take my ability to think.

Day 5: Six songs that you're addicted to.

This changes for me a lot, depending on what I'm in the mood for and what new band I've stumbled on, so I'm going to go with the ones I've been listening to recently.

  1. House Rules by Christian Kane - because it's a fun, country rock-ish song that always makes me want to dance, plus it has the line Well rule number 7 says don't touch the women, but they can grab whatever they want to... which, come on, is a really cool lyric!

  2. Enemies by Shinedown - just because it kind of represents the type of music I like best; a good guitar riff, a middle of the road rock sound, and a song with lyrics that say something.

  3. Under the Water by The Pretty Reckless - because dear Lord, can Taylor Momsen sing, and this is just a beautiful song.

  4. On my Own by Ashes Remain - because I'm a bit of a Christian Rock fan, and this is an awesome song.

  5. The Story by Sara Ramirez - she makes me whimper, because she's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen on this planet, and she has the voice of an angel to go with it.

  6. Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer by Jay Z and Linkin Park - because awesome lyrics and a fucking fantastic guitar riff, not to mention how socially important the message of this song is considering the current #BlackLivesMatter and #StayWoke. Actually, I recommend listening to the entire Collision Course album.

Day 4: Seven fears/phobias

  1. Arachnophobia. I am terrified, even just seeing a picture of one can make me hyperventilate.

  2. Claustrophobia. I want to be cremated when I die simply because the idea of burning alive is less terrifying than the thought of them making a mistake and me being trapped in a box six feet underground. Nope, nope nope nope.

  3. Not being able to see the sun or feel air. Just the idea of scuba diving fills me with dread, and I would rather die than ever go into space.

  4. Crowded places. I can't stand being touched, it really freaks me out.

  5. Anything happening to my family, but especially my kids (all parents live with this fear, I think).

  6. Dead bodies. I ws once accidentally trapped in a hospital room with a dead person when I was 7. I would be absolutely useless in a zombie apocalypse.

  7. Tomatoes. With their jelly insides and the pips that stick to everything, ugh. My best friend's daughter once spent an afternoon sharing her cherry tomatoes with me. It was torture. My friend laughed herself sick.

Day 3: Eight Things that Annoy You

  1. People who argue when I tell them they've spelled something wrong. I've been correcting spelling since I was 4, when I noticed my teacher had misspelled "because". There's a lot of things I can't do (science, geography, history, politics, social interactions, just off the top of my head), but spelling is not one of them. So please don't ask me how to spell something and then ask me if I'm sure. Trust me, I'm very sure.

  2. When Ben leaves damp towels on the bed. Like, fuck off, what were you, raised in a barn?

  3. When people complain about others doing things they do themselves. Ben does this a lot - complains when people don't use their turn signals, but doesn't bother to use them himself. Just, shut up.

  4. People who can't just let other people have an opinion. Like, okay, you don't think Supernatural are queerbaiting us with Dean/Castiel? That's great, good for you, glad you're happy. But I do think that, and I'm going to keep on thinking it, if it's all the same to you.

  5. Big plot spoilers in book reviews. I just... why would you do that?

  6. People asking if I perm my hair. Would I really want to do this to myself on purpose?

  7. When people put empty bottles back in the fridge. Come on, the bin is right there.

  8. People (and by that I mean my kids) taking my hairbrush and then not putting it back. I have like a 10 minute window after washing my hair until brushing out the knots becomes an impossible task, and I need my brush put it back you little bastards.

Huh, that was a hard one, not a lot of things really bug me.

Day 2: Nine Things you do Everyday

  1. Go online. I check Twitter, Tumblr, LJ, and my email before I've even gotten out of bed in the morning. Then I make a note of everything I want/need to comment on and spread them out through the rest of the day.

  2. Read for pleasure (which is different to reading for work). Either fic or a book, or a bunch of poems, but I'll read something everyday.

  3. Drink Diet Coke. I'm addicted to it (or the caffeine, possibly) and I get through over 2 litres of the stuff in a day.

  4. Laundry. I wish I didn't have to, but such is the life of a parent *sigh*.

  5. Watch something on TV with my kids. Life can be really busy, so this is a good way for us all to spend an hour doing something together. Right now we're going through Leverage, and my older daughter and myself are crying over Christian Kane's beautiful arm muscles. Oh and his hair, mustn't forget that. Before that, it was Stargate: Atlantis. I forgot how much I shipped the McShep ship, tbh.

  6. Stroke my cat. I have 4, but Birdie is my baby. He's huge, 3 feet long from nose to tail, and weighs 22lbs, and he likes to get in bed between Ben and me to stop any touching from going on. If Ben tries to get fresh, Birdie will attack him until he gives up and rolls away, while I laugh myself to death.

  7. Have a cup of tea, and dunk a small bar of chocolate in it, instead of a biscuit.

  8. Crack my knuckles. And my toes, ankles, knees, hips, back. I just know I'm headed for arthritis, but it can't be helped.

  9. Kiss Ben. There are times when our schedules are completely out of sync with each other, but even then, whenever we see each other we have a good long snog, complete with wandering hands and whimpering moans. We embarrass our kids a lot with that, it's great fun!

lauren3210: (merthur)
I have been feeling like utter shit recently, and I'm only just now beginning to climb out of it. It started with a cold that appeared a week ago, nothing special, but then it turned into an infection that only decided to release its grip on me once I began my second dose of antibiotics. I've been literally unable to do anything; work, house, kids, fandom, they've all had to be abandoned in favour of me laying in bed, staring up at the ceiling and groaning - and not in the good way. I've got two fest fics to start work on, and a couple of beta responsibilities (sorry about the wait for that, by the way - you know who you are), and now I'm behind by a week that I hadn't planned on, so that sucks. Oh, and I also broke my laptop last week, by erm, putting my fist through the screen? Bloody Windows 8 man, it keeps freezing and buggering everything up, and I should have listened to my dad when he told me to run as far as I could from it, and when I realised he was right I got so angry and I was already ill and nothing was working, so I just sort of... punched the damned thing. Oops. Anyway, now I'm waiting for my brother to fix that for me, so in the meantime I'm stuck using my husband's desktop, which feels heavy and clunky compared to the lightness of my laptop, and it's really difficult trying to balance everything on my knees (just joking, I'm not actually trying to do that, that would be weird). But anyway, I'm feeling a little bit better now, so I thought I'd celebrate by doing that 10 Day Meme thing that's currently all over my friends page, because it means talking about myself, and I like doing that!

Day 1: Ten Random Facts About Yourself

  1. I don't like ice cream. It feels weird on my tongue and gives me a headache really quickly.

  2. My first kiss was with a girl, when we were both 13. I went on to kiss more girls, she didn't. But we're still good friends.

  3. I have known my very best friend for 27 years. We met when we were 7, and although we're as different as two people could possibly be, we get each other more than anyone else.

  4. Although I call him my husband, Ben and I have never actually got around to tying the knot. I did a similar meme to this on Twitter once, and when I said this, one of my friends started crying and said "it's like my whole life has been a lie, because you guys are my RL OTP!" I laughed, a lot.

  5. I have hardly any feeling in my feet, after a car accident when I was 20 deadened the nerves. This means that I sometimes wobble when I'm walking.

  6. When I was 14, I was told that my nose and ears were too small for my face by a school nurse. I've been paranoid about them ever since.

  7. I was a gymnast up until I was 15, when I slipped two discs in my back and almost paralysed myself. By the time I was ready to start training again, I had grown boobs, so I gave up.

  8. I am literally unable to be sick without forcing myself to do it. Until I became pregnant at 17, I had vomited exactly 5 times in my entire life, including infancy.

  9. I don't like orange coloured smarties, because they taste like chocolate orange, and I don't like that either. I realise this is probably psychosomatic, due to the colour, but I can't help it.

  10. I am a terrible driver. I have owned 5 cars in my lifetime, and I have crashed them all. But it's not my fault, it's just things like to jump out in front of me, like curbs and parked cars, and once even a pole (what the fuck was it doing there? We will never know, because I killed it).

Okay, now I have to go back to catching up on the work I had to skip out on this week, byeeee!
