Wow, it feels like it's been forever since I last posted! May is always a hella busy time for me work wise, and I've been up to my eyeballs in last minute edits, printing meltdowns and marketing fiascos, but I'm beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, so yay! I've still got to finish betaing a fic for a friend and I'm gonna get right on that, but first, I thought I'd give a quick update on what's been happening with me!

Last Saturday, the family went out to Irchester Park for the day. My mum, stepdad, brother and fiance drove up to meet us there, and we had a picnic and a walk around the woods and a play in the park. And, while Nanna and Grandad taught Imogen how to ride her bike without stabilisers, the rest of us went up on the high wire adventure thingy! It was AWESOME, with the 6 of us high up in the trees like effing fairies (something that made my brother and his fiance giggle like idiots about), shouting to each other and swinging from platform to platform, wearing these stupid harnesses and flailing about like proper numpties. Eryn slipped off at one point, and we had to haul her back up from where she was just dangling by her safety line, and I bounced off a tree trunk so hard that I had to be towed back to the platform by a guy on the ground holding my foot. The next day, I woke up covered in bruises and pretty much unable to walk without crying, but oh God, we had such fun! I can't wait to go again!

Imogen went to a birthday party today, and it was one of those where they have a bunch of entertainers there for the kids. They had a batman, a spiderman, an Olaf, and an Elsa (who looked really fucking creepy with a big massive head, it was weird as fuck). Imogen enjoyed the hell out of herself, of course, because next to Deadpool, Spiderman is her absolute fave person ever. I on the other hand, had an all out panic attack. And part of me gets a bit cross about this, because surely they could see how uncomfortable I was? I was radiating get the fuck away from me, but they just kept coming up to me, trying to grab my hand and force me into the middle of the group to jump around and shit. Like, stop fucking touching me before I break your nose, you know? But on the other hand, I feel kinda dumb, because it's a fucking kid's party for fuck's sake, and there I am hiding out in the kitchen, ducking down behind the cupboards whenever one of them comes too close to the window, my heart in my fucking throat and my pulse pounding in my ears, and I'm shaking all over and trying desperately not to cry. I mean, I'm a 33 year old woman, for fuck's sake, what the hell am I doing hiding under the fucking sink? So now that I'm home, I'm torn between wanting to smack myself upside the head for being so dumb, and finding that fucking batman so I can kick him in the nuts, tbh.

So, I'm ridiculous. I stupidly signed up to take part in 5 fests over a period of just over 3 months, and the second I've handed them all in and wiped the sweat from my forehead, I somehow manage to end up writing for 2 more? It's not too bad though, because I'm excited about my project for [livejournal.com profile] hd_collab, and then [livejournal.com profile] hd_eighthyear managed to catch my eye, and I'm kind of really excited about that prompt. But honestly, how do I manage to get myself into these messes?

Oh, and while I'm here, how proud am I to be Irish right now? It's SUCH a big deal, because this is a country that still tries to ban abortions in hospitals on religious grounds, so focussed are they on the rules of Catholicism. This is the country that my uncle had to leave because he was gay, the country that my grandmother had to leave because she fell pregnant out of wedlock. So for the entire country to recognise that love is love is love, and that it should all be celebrated no matter whom it's between, is such a wonderful thing. I'm so proud of my entire heritage right now tbh.

So, that's me! Hopefully I'll have some time to come on here and read and comment a bit more come June! Hope everyone else is doing well! <3
