Pairing: Mike/Harvey (Marvey)

Okay, so you know how this goes by now; here be feels, fics, and vids, all under the cuts!


Has anyone here ever watched Bones? Or, Castle, maybe? The love stories on that show are fairly formulaic, right? I mean, not that I care; they work for a reason, and I'm pretty sure I cheered when both the couples on those shows finally got their acts together. But it is a familiar story; a man and a woman partner up, there's sparks and banter, and fairly quickly they come to view each other as the most important person to them, someone they would sacrifice themselves for in a heartbeat. Usually at least one of them has emotional/relationship baggage, and quite often one of them is scary smart. I mean, we've all read or watched this type of relationship, right?

So, imagine this: Best lawyer in NYC is looking for an associate; a prerequisite for becoming a partner in his law firm. Unimpressed by the candidates he's been interviewing, he suddenly finds himself accidentally meeting a girl who he just knows could do the job twice as good as the idiots he's been talking to all day, despite the fact that she doesn't have a law degree. So, the lawyer decides to do something about that; he hires her anyway and they just pretend that she has all the qualifications she needs to do the job. The girl is hella smart, quick thinking and intelligent, and is the only person in the lawyer's life who can keep up with him and keep him on his toes. But she also has something the lawyer has lost somewhere in the world of corporate law: ethics. If she's not careful, she could end up burning out way too soon with the amount of herself she puts into helping their clients. So the lawyer teaches her how to be harder, colder, and somewhere along the way, she teaches him how to open up more of himself, and he remembers that he also has a heart. I mean, we all know where this is going, right?

This is the exact premise for the show Suits, with one exception: the girl is actually a boy. Their entire relationship right from the start practicaly screams True Love, and it does it so obviously that fanfic for these two started popping up after the very first episode. Unfortunately, this show is pretty much a template for heteronormativity, and all that that entails. Harvey's going to end up with his female secretary (because that isn't a trope we've all seen before) and Mike's already in love with the pretty paralegal he met in the very first episode (because again, cliche tropes are what this show lives for). Pretty much the only selling point for this show (for me, anyway) is watching Gina Torres playing a professional woman while wearing these absolutely stunning outfits (I love her, okay).

However, putting all that aside, these two boys make me cry on a daily basis, because they do horrible things like share pineapple, get high together and eat pretzels, and then sneak into the office to pee in their rival's office, all while looking at each other like this:

And that's not all. They save each other, and they look after each other and goddamn it, they touch each other. Like, a lot. Also they tend to stand really fucking close, it's awful and gross.

Oh yeah, Harvey calls Mike good boy. Now tell me you're not already shipping this and have a million naughty ideas for fics in your heads? Yeah, thought so. ;)

Again, I have like a million and one fics for this pairing all nicely bookmarked for my pleasure, so it's realy hard to choose just one fic to share. If you're already in this fandom though and haven't yet managed to stumble on her, I would suggest you read abolsutely everything tattoedsiren has written for these two. She's fantastic - I wrote a hella long fic for this pairing, and kept al of her fics open in tabs for inspiration while I did (and I'm really fucking proud of how that story came out, dude, like really damn proud). However, I'm going to rec something a little different for this pairing:

Summary: When Grammy needs an upgrade in care, Mike knows that the usual one-off gig as a paid submissive won't be enough. He takes a job he's been refusing for a while - a long-term, full-time contract. He expects his client to be a sadistic asshole. He expects not to like it. He's wrong on both counts.

Why I like it: BDSM is a favourite kink of mine, but it has to be written right. All too often I come across fics that don't really understand what BDSM relationships are actually like, and they veer way too close to something resembling 50 Shades of Grey for me to feel comfortable reading them. But this fic gets it. There's lots of awesome, crazy hot sex, but the aftercare, the kink negotiation, the effects of subspace, it's all there in copious amounts. This ship is actually perfect for this type of relationship, and the author makes it all seem so natural and beautiful. It's hella long, but it's so damn worth it. Also, it's an AU set within the canon, so it's like you can get a glimpse of the show without having to actually watch it, lmao!

Excerpt:

"Ok, yes, this is a treat because Harvey's going down on him. And now Mike also regrets the use of condoms. Harvey looks smug at his change in attitude, and that look should be illegal with his lips around Mike's dick. Harvey keeps dark eyes on him, and Mike can't look away.

From the way his hips are pinned, Mike thinks hair-pulling's not an option so he makes do with abusing the sheets when temptation is too much.

"That's my good boy," Harvey says, low, gravelly and filthy, and Mike's dick twitches, his hips jerk, and Harvey presses them down harder. Mike's never had someone look so dangerous just before they swallow him down.

Harvey's eyes close as he gets down to Serious Business. He's really, really good at this, and Mike holds out as long as possible, almost biting through his lip. He's kind of grateful for the latex for helping draw it out, but then he thinks of this without it and....

Yeah. He's a goner."

The main reason why I love this vid so much is that it's fun. It encapsulates everything I love about these two boys: how they get really close, touch each other, stare at each other way longer than necessary, and the vid captures all that in an amusing, light way. It's gorgeous.
