Random stuff

I had about the craziest and best weekend the past couple of days! I went shopping on Friday with my daughter, and we had to buy her some new bras, because she's rapidly growing out of her old ones. Is it weird that I'm slightly jealous? Like, when I was her age, my mother used to describe my chest as "two paracetamols on an ironing board," and she wasn't too far off tbh. Of course these days I look like I'm smuggling watermelons under my shirts, after growing a size after giving birth to each child. But still, how is it possible that my baby could be growing up so fast? It's not fair somebody make it stop!

Ben bought me flowers on his way home from work on Friday, which makes that the fourth bunch of flowers he has given me in our entire 11 year relationship. I might be bothered by this if I didn't kill anything with leaves on it within a 24 hour period. I think maybe they can sense my inability to prolong their life and just give up preemptively. But then we went out for dinner together, and then went to see Mockingjay, which we both thought was kinda cool. We had a bit of an altercation in the cinema, because this couple weren't very pleased that they were sitting so close to us in the so-called 'priority seats'. For some reason they thought that glaring at us and mumbling under their breath would make us move, so instead I just smiled really brightly and started talking really loudly in Gaeilge, just to piss them off. I figured they didn't like my colouring and wouldn't actually be all that knowledgeable about different languages, and I was right, because then we heard them mumble, "it's not right, that guy should be with a white girl." Nice to know racism is still going strong in this country. Ben looked like he might actually get up and kill somebody, but I managed to soothe him with the promise of some road head on the way home, haha!

We spent Saturday and Sunday moving all of our upstairs furniture downstairs, because tomorrow we have some carpenters coming to replace all of our floorboards. We're currently all camped out in our living room, it's kind of hilarious. But! New beds and carpets by next week, which I have been looking forward to for almost 2 years, dear lord. Saturday night was also our date night - we don't usually get to spend a lot of time together, so we make sure to spend one evening a week just having fun together. We got very drunk while watching The 100 (which is an awesome show that everybody needs to watch btw) and then put on some old episode of Stargate and laughed over the terribleness of it. Eryn came downstairs at about 3 am to tell us off for being too loud, and found us in the kitchen, giggling while we tried to make nachos. We are actually 13 year old children, I don't know why we're allowed to live on our own tbh.

Sunday was spent trying to relieve our hangovers, which for some reason involved a game of Hide and Seek for the entire family. I hid in my wardrobe and actually fell asleep for half an hour, it was very refreshing! Then I wrote 750 words of a new H/D fic, and then switched and began writing a prequel for my Sterek fic, because it's Christmas!

I went out Christmas shopping today with my daughter, and a lovely woman in front of us in a queue said that she was surprised when Eryn called me "mum", because she thought we looked more like sisters! I'd like to marry this lady, tbh. And I've finally finished my Christmas shopping, just a few more bits to get, and then I can stop worrying about it. It's been so hard figuring out what to get the kids this year - they already have absolutely everything. I'm beginning to realise that they might be quite spoilt.

ERISED starts posting today! I'm so excited, I can't wait to see what everyone has written, and what my giftee thinks of their present! And a fic tailored specifically to me! I actually can't believe this is happening, it feels so unreal! I'm also getting ready to help mod the D/E Holiday Exchange - I might not ship the ship or even watch the show anymore, but I love getting involved every Christmas, catching up with all my D/E writer friends and seeing their new prompt ideas and stories, it's great fun.

In other news, I kind of really want to write some more H/D, but am coming up short with ideas. Does anybody have any for me? I have like a half dozen random scenes and bits of dialogue floating around in my brain, but no actual story to use them for, so any ideas or prompts would be fantastic!

How has everyone else's weekend been? Fun, I hope! <3

\o/ Yay for flowers! I don't think Mr Birds has ever brought me flowers in 15 years, not even after the birth of our kids, so I think you're doing quite well ;)

I'm glad you had a nice evening out, but I am shocked at the casual racist remarks! How bloody awful.

And then I am agog at you appeasing your husband with the promise of 'road head' - OMG! Is that like a blow job while he is driving? Was this a joke? I can't work out if I am completely filthy or completely naive. O_o

H/D prompts! I could throw you a few of mine that didn't get picked up at fests, recently? Or is that too much like having someone's old leftovers? ;) I can never remember good ideas I have for prompts unless I write them down immediately. I had a fabulous one for career fair the other day and now it's just gone...

Ah racism, such a joy to run into! And I'm fairly pale skinned in the scheme of things, so I can only imagine how much worse it must be for others. Of course, as my husband is a ginger, I do tend to stand out a bit more when next to him, lol.

Hahaha, nope you're not being filthy, that is exactly what it means. And nope, not a joke either - that probably makes me the filthy one, right?

And YES give me all the prompts you remember, I'm not fussy! I just really want to try writing some different things but am coming up empty on ideas myself

OMG, I'm still like this about the blow job O_O. Do you not worry he will crash? I should probably stop asking, now, my eyes are going to pop out of my head if I think about it any more (I am so easily shocked in RL, obviously ;))

Well I had a prompt for an older Draco and Harry getting together in their 40s/50s, I don't know if that interests you...? I love the idea of them running into one another again decades down the line (post divorce) and the old fire being there just as burning hot as ever. Only this time they are mature enough to recognise it for what it is, LOL, monstrous sexual tension.

I will have a mental rummage for some others :)

Haha omg bless you! A yeah, crashing is a bit of a worry, which is why I only ever offer when it's late and the roads are likely to be empty, lol!

Hmm, I've never written an older pairing before, that could be interesting! I'll give it a go, and remember me when you think of any more!

Well, that was a prompt for the salt and pepper fest at hp_goldenage, so I shouldn't really reprompt it to you until that fest is over, but tbh I feel it's such a loose prompt that it doesn't matter. In case you feel like writing for the fest, the prompt list is here: http://hp-goldenage.livejournal.com/9377.html

There are a few H/D prompts there, and I'm particularly fond of my "meeting after decades and having messy drunken sex at a party" and "one partner reveals a kink after years of being together" prompts.

Or, what about a nice Hogwarts setting where Draco is the librarian/caretaker and Harry is the gamekeeper/Quidditch master? That was an unclaimed one of mine from career fair.

Or, if you want them younger, good old 8th year fic where they keep getting in detention together?

If none of these take your fancy, please don't worry!

Wahhhh omg I'm actually having sudden thoughts for all of them at the same time, and it's awesome and very confusing, LOL! I am DEFINITELY going to try my hand at all of these, and I shall let you know if any of them come into fruition!

Thank you BB! *smooches*

[identity profile] indyonblue.livejournal.com 2014-12-01 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I was just going to comment that there are a few unclaimed H/D prompts at goldenage but Birds beat me to it! I prompted a H/D & it's still unclaimed too so if you want it...

But seriously, your writing is so amazing I would love it if you wrote one of my prompts :D

[identity profile] lauren3210.livejournal.com 2014-12-01 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww you're so sweet <3

Tbh, I would love any kind of ideas, I'm trying to expand my repertoire a little, and age is definitely something I could look into changing - as most of my ships tend to be in the 20-30 age range, that's where I tend to write them, and I'd like to try and rectify that a little. I also have like, a million different tropes I'd love to try my hand at, but am still blank story-wise, so anything anyone comes up with would be great!

[identity profile] this-bloody-cat.livejournal.com 2014-12-01 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep my (unused) prompts here. If (somehow, miraculously xD) any of them appeal to you, feel free to steal them -- because I'm certainly not going to write them, and because it'd make me happy and whatnot ♥

Road head! *snorts* I am so very mature.

[identity profile] lauren3210.livejournal.com 2014-12-01 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, I shall check that out this evening, thank you!

(hey, I'm the one writing it in a post, I think I might be a rung lower than you on that maturity ladder ;))

On the bright side, if when we fall off, it won't hurt too badly ;)

LOL! OMG, yes, road-head totally exists. I know this first hand. If you doubt me, ask any trucker. They get the birds-eye view of all weird things happening on the road.

I'm like you, I don't have much imagination for new ideas, and recycling others ideas always seems a bit like stealing. But there are adopt-a-promt places around, I think. I'll keep you in mind if a good idea strikes.

I love the idea of salt & pepper, with Harry and Draco meeting again a couple of decades down the road. But I'm not really a big fan of very young people, teens and maybe 20-somethings, writing 40+ characters. They are just in a completely different place emotionally and spiritually. It's too easy for young people to ascribe 20-something concerns to 40+ characters and you end up with 40 or 50 yr olds with the emotional make-up of a teenager or 20 yr old. A 20 yr old has never been 50, but a 50 yr old has been a teenager or a 20-something, so it works easier in reverse. I will admit that some writers can pull it off, but a lot can't.

[identity profile] lauren3210.livejournal.com 2014-12-02 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Haha yes the truckers! One of my best friends is a truck driver, and the stories he has to tell will make your eyes fall out of your head, LOL!

I don't think using others ideas is stealing really, if you at least credit the person for inspiring you, anyway. But yes, keep me in mind if you think of an idea!

Haha, have you ever heard the theory that you mentally stop at the age you had your first child? Because as the incident with the nachos (and the road head) clearly shows, I am still in my teens, LOL! But I think that a writer who works hard to understand the mindset of their characters should be able to pull off writing something that they themselves haven't yet experienced. It just takes a bit of concentration and thought, I think?
