Okay, I promised
besamislabios that I would send her a message with some fic recs for this pairing, but when I actually started looking at my bookmarks I realised that there were way too many that I couldn't leave out and they wouldn't all go into the message, so. Here are some of my fave Stucky fics!
(Note: I tend to look for good plot and good writing before I look for sex, so the ratings of these will go up and down)
Title: lethe
Author: black_nata
Rating: E/NC-17
Summary: "Do it," he goads. "Do it or come back home with me and let me help you. But you gotta do it now, Buck, because I can't take another moment of this hell."
My Thoughts: Beautifully written post-CA:TWS fic featuring a recovering!Bucky.
Title: The Man on the Bridge
Author: boopboop
Rating: M/R
Summary: Steve Rogers turning up at Tony's door in the middle of the night might be a bit out of character, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. Stranger things have happened. Steve Rogers turning up at Tony's door with an amnesiac assassin - who may or may not have some of Tony's personally designed hardware attached where his arm should be - well that's just far too interesting to turn away, even if Tony is trying to avoid all things S.H.I.E.L.D these days.
My Thoughts: One of the first, and still one of the best imo, post-CA:TWS fic out there. Be warned though, it's hella long.
Title: Mistake on the Part of Nature
Author: idiopathicsmile
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: Steve takes in Bucky's betrayed look and Sam's confusion, follows Sam's gaze to the pile of mangled fruit in the trash can. Sudden comprehension fills his face. "Oh," he says. "Bucky found out about bananas." In which an American icon is mourned. But probably not the one you're thinking of.
My Thoughts: Hilarious and cute, and an utterly brilliant Sam Wilson.
Title: Your Favorite Ghost
Author: augustbird
Rating: E/NC-17
Summary: It's harder than Steve ever expected to bring Bucky home.
My Thoughts: Another beautifully written and very realistic portrayal of how Steve and Bucky deal with the aftermath of CA:TWS.
Title: Building from the Ground Up (series)
Author: EmilianaDarling
Rating: ranges fom T/PG-13 to E/NC-17
Summary: He is the Winter Soldier. He is James Buchanan Barnes. He’s not one and he’s not the other, and he’s not sure if that makes him anything worth saving. Steve wants to be a good friend, to be selfless and strong and endlessly patient. To be confident that he’s making the right choices, doing the right things. To be the person that Bucky needs him to be. Mostly he just feels useless instead. None of it is easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is.
My Thoughts: Yet another post-CA:TWS set of fics, that lays out the recovery process from both sides. Well written, and heartbreaking - in a good way, promise!
(NOTE: I'm going to come back and edit this post later with loads more fics, but I have to go make dinner before I am fed upon by starving hyenas (Ie: my family) so yeah, watch this space!)
Title: Steve Rogers at 100: Celebrating Captain America on Film
Author: various
Rating: G
Summary: “Heil Hydra,” the enemy agent shouts. “Heil this, motherfucker,” says Captain America, shooting off a rocket. Steve and Bucky find out Hollywood has been busy since they went away. A historical survey, including but not limited to: one set of exploded genitals, a brief interlude in France, Mel Gibson and other masterworks of casting, eight Academy awards, several dinosaurs, and something Tony Stark has ominously dubbed “the masterpiece.” Art included.
My Thoughts: An absolute must-read, especially if you like the concept of comical meta-fiction! Completely hilarious.
Title: Tin Soldiers
Author: idrilka
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: In his 2009 book on Captain America comic books, war photography, and American propaganda, Everett claims: “There is nothing to suggest that either the graphic novels issued during the war or the photographs taken during Rogers’ stay with the Howling Commandos can serve as a basis for a queer reading of Rogers and Barnes’ relationship. But even more importantly, there is nothing to suggest that such a relationship ever existed in the first place, and as such, those queer readings are not only misguided, but also libelous” (197). [from: Lynn E. Anderson, Captain America: Behind the Mask. Steve Rogers and the Contemporary Hero Narrative (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2012), p. 242.] In the aftermath of Steve's return to the world of the living and the battle of New York, the academia and the Internet react.
My Thoughts: This is seriously awesome, and I am constantly in awe of the original things this fandom comes up with tbh. The relationship of Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers, as seen through the eyes of academia, historians, and their fans, basically.
Title: United States v. Barnes, 617 F. Supp. 2d 143 (D.D.C. 2015)
Author: fallingvoices/radialarch
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: The Associated Press @AP Winter Soldier set to stand trial for Washington D.C. massacre and treason apne.ws/1og6SWE
My Thoughts: Yet another original way of telling a story - Bucky Barnes is put on trial for his crimes as the Winter Soldier, told though the eyes of the press and social media. Really bloody good.
Title: Circling Back
Author: chaya
Rating: E/NC-17
Summary: Steve looks for Bucky, Bucky finds Steve, Steve tries desperately to put Bucky back together. Bucky tries desperately to let him.
My Thoughts: Another post-CA:TWS fic, really well written. Featuring broken!Bucky and a Steve doing everything he can to fix him.
Title: Soft Spot for the Hell Raisin' Boy
Author: ifeelbetter
Rating: G
Summary: The Winter Soldier takes an interest in Sam Wilson. Bucky Barnes wants to tell him how to be Steve Rogers's best friend.
My Thoughts: Really cute little fic, and Sam's reactions are absolutely hilarious!
Title: Make it up as we go Along
Author: hannahrhen
Rating: E/NC-17
Summary: Steve's a terrible liar when he opens his mouth.
My Thoughts: Really well written stream-of-conscious style fic - really cool to see Steve's thought processes as he looks for his Bucky.
Title: 5 Times Steve Got Arrested and 1 Time They All Did
Author: heartsdesire456
Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: What it says, 5 times Steve Rogers ended up in jail (with and without Bucky) + 1 time all of the Avengers got arrested with him.
My Thoughts: Funny and cute, and Steve is so endearing in this I just wanna hug him to death.
Title: Fluff
Author: MoreThanSlightly
Rating: E/NC-17
Summary: “Dr. Foster, this is a tower full of highly trained soldiers, spies, and geniuses. If we can’t track down and subdue a frith—um, small Asgardian mammal, then nobody can,” Steve says. He tries to look reassuring. It must not be working. She’s still looking around like it might pop out at any moment. “Frithrkottr,” she says. She takes a deep breath and tucks some errant strands of hair behind her ear. “It’s furry. Kitten-sized.” “A real cause for panic,” he says, trying to make her smile. She doesn’t look calmed.
My Thoughts: Look, I just love fics set in the Avengers Tower, okay? Also, Steve shares my obsession for Thor's arms in this, which is just brilliantly awesome.
Title: escape from new york
Author: beardsley
Rating: M/R
Summary: On Monday morning Thor parades bare-ass naked around the Tower; it all goes downhill from there. Or, the one where New York gets infected with alien sex pollen, Steve appears to be the only sane man, and the things that ensue include hilarity, fake zombies, pining and surprise makeouts. And a bear trap.
My Thoughts: SEX POLLEN. Seriously, 'nuff said.
Title: The Smithsonian Guard
Author: valerian_ash
Rating: G
Summary: Bucky makes a friend.
My Thoughts: Because any fic that includes Stan Lee the as the guard from the Smithsonian needs to be read, tbh.
Just so y'all know, this doesn't even cover a tenth of the fics I have read and loved for this pairing so, when you've gone through these let me know, and I'll pull up some more :D
