In keeping with my Golden Oldies theme this year, this post is about another of my long-time ships, Mike/Harvey, from Suits:
Rec no.1:
Title: Grande Soy Triple Dirty Chai
Author: friskaz
Rating: R/M
Word Count: 38,500
Warnings: Coffee Shop AU
Summary: Every fandom needs a barista au. Original prompt on the kink meme: "Harvey is (still) a lawyer. Mike is the only barista that gets his coffee order right, and isn't afraid of a bit of intelligent and snarky banter."
Why I love it: As the summary says, every fandom needs a barista AU, and this is one of the best ones I've ever read. There's oodles of snarky banter and Harvey is a lovable asshole and Mike is supremely unimpressed, and then everything is just cuteness. A really gorgeous read.
Rec no.2:
Title: This Tornado Loves You
Author: liketheroad
Rating: R/M
Word Count: 60,000
Warnings: highschool AU; college AU; hurt/comfort; age discrepancy
Summary: A story about first loves and true loves, about friendship, growing up, and growing together. Atlernatively, this is a story about Mike figuring out what he deserves, and learning how to ask for it. (AU)
Why I love it: In every fandom, a certain fic exists, one that takes the bare bones of the original text and somehow manages to spin it into something even more profound than its creators could ever have imagined. This is that fic. Even though it's an AU, it takes everything important about the original show, everything about it that makes its fandom love it, and somehow makes it... more. The characters are the same, and yet they're more. The emotions are the same, and yet more intense. The plot is completely different, and yet there's so much background that it feels as though this is the truth, and the original text is reduced to a poorly thought out copy. If you only ever read one Suits fic your entire life, make it this one. You won't regret it.
Rec no.3:
Title: Whatever the Question
Author: tattoedsiren
Rating: NC-17/E
Word Count: 44,000
Warnings: AU-Canon; fake!relationship
Summary: When Harvey and Mike are called into Jessica's office, they're convinced she has discovered the truth about Mike's past. And she has, just not in the way they anticipated. It's revealed that Mike isn't actually an American citizen, and Harvey does what he always does: covers for Mike. He says the first idea that comes into his head, which just happens to result in Harvey telling the American government that he and Mike are getting married.
Why I love it: This is one of my favourite fics from this author (and that's saying something, because Rachel is amazing at writing this couple), I think mainly because it centres around one of my top 5 favourite tropes: pretend!boyfriends! This fic is basically the Mike/Harvey verion of the film The Proposal, and I'm kind of stupidly in love with it. It has everything you can expect from this trope: fun misunderstandings, angsty misunderstandings, pining and hot, hot sex. What more could you ask for?
