Hi!!! SO good to hear from you my dear! I'm really glad things are looking good for your step-dad, and it sounds like you had some big and good things happen in 2018!
And what an awesome question! I've never really thought of it like that, but there are definitely fics that I do that for. I actually have several, and I realized as I was thinking about it that a lot of them tend to be fics that A. I was really excited/passionate about writing and B. maybe have content/themes/etc. that inspire intense emotion (hence amazing comments) and thus might not be everybody's cup of tea. I can think of about 5 fics that I go to for this kind of thing, but so as not to give you my entire masterlist, LOL, I'd say the first fic that immediately came to mind for me was When Shared (Drarry, Explicit, 6k) which is kind of an angsty fic with an ambiguous ending and def not for everybody (so please don't feel you have to read it if you'd prefer something happier ATM), but I wanted to explore some of the ways in which Harry & Draco might not ultimately be compatible, even if they love each other, and it was kind of a cathartic writing experience. Due to the content I sort of thought nobody would read it, but it has some of the most thoughtful and lovey comments on it out of all of my works, and I've definitely reread the over the past year when I've been feeling wibblly about writing! <3
