A craptastic start to the week!

So, it was my baby's first full day of school today, and that was more of a struggle than it should have been. Because of her very recent diagnosis of a hearing impairment, me and the school have had to scrabble around to find her an SEN teacher that's likely to be permanent. We managed it (within a week, actually, which might be some kind of record), and then Imogen spent the whole of the weekend throwing up, having caught a stomach bug from God knows where. She still managed to go in today, but she was completely knackered and fell asleep on the way home. My eldest was sent home from her school today, because she'd managed to throw up in the middle of the hallway, and she's spent the rest of the day hugging a bowl to her chest in between bouts of running off to the toilet. My middle girl also came home feeling sick, and she's now also hugging a bowl and moaning. And my husband has had to come home from work, because he was feeling sick, and being a doctor he's had to distance himself as much as possible from work. And on top of all that, I am experiencing probably the heaviest period ever, including all the post pregnancy ones I've suffered through, to the point where I am literally having trouble standing upright. And now I'm fgeeling sick too.

Like, seriously, if anyone else has had a worse Monday than me, then I shall make you a special award for it, because you'd bloody deserve it.

On another note, I came across THIS on Tumblr today, and I spent a good few minutes laughing incredulously. Someone has decided to rewrite Harry Potter and make it suitable for Christian children, taking out all those nasty bits like magic and stuff because, you know, otherwise kids might grow up to become witches! Which is totally a thing that happens. I'm just... I can't quite work out if this is just a troll (in which case, rme) or if they're seriously thinking stuff like this. It kind of makes me want to shove my entire thesis down these people's throats because WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIVES. If this is for real, I kind of don't really want to live on this planet anymore. Although I have to say, the entertainment value is kind of cool.

But anyway, that's been my Monday! Things can only go downhill from here...

Sorry about all the sickies. It's been going around here, as well.

Someone very close to me decided to not watch and not let her kids watch or read Harry Potter. She knows how much I adore it and it was an issue at first, but I decided that I love this person dearly and if this is her line in the sand...I'll respect it.

It was totally the witches thing that bothered her. She is a Christian, but actually not one of those fundamental ones that drive everyone else crazy with their extreme views that they push on everyone else. We have had many great discussions about Christianity and philosophy. We both respect each other's choices. It just seems that to many Christians the word 'witch' is synonymous with satanist and there is little I can do to change that assumption, and believe me I have tried.

I finally, simply said that the Harry Potter books were not promoting satanism any more than every Disney movie, cartoon or video game that her kids are watching. She said she knew that. So we just agree to disagee.

Literally everyone is puking here right now, we have literal synchronised vomiting, I have never seen anything like it!

It's really hard for me when I come across these kinds of things because I actually wrote my PhD thesis on the Christian themes in HP - the series is actually just like a retelling of the New Testament - so I just find it really difficult for me to understand how others can't see it, so I often find myself very bemused, lol.

I too have some very Christian friends who were opposed to the HP series because of the witchcraft - and family actually, seeing as half my family are made up of Catholics - so I know there are just some people you can't talk to about it!

I've had a pretty miserable day, but that link cheered me up. I can't decide if it's someone being satirical or if it's real, but either way it's given me a little giggle!

Everyone is so sick, if they give it to me I might have to kill something tbh. No way can I cope with that on top of these stomach cramps from hell!

I have no idea either, but it gave me a giggle anyway, once I was over theshock of the ridiculousness, lol!

Awe, but she should have rewritten the seven books and titled them things like Harry Potter and the Holy Tunic of Christ or Harry Potter and the Spear of Longinus! Clearly not invested enough. I am disappointed xD

I tend to sing the Irish anthem while I wash the dishes, for some reason D: I try not to, if we have guests. But then I sort of hum weirdly.

LOL do you sing it cause you're Irish or is the reason even more obscure than that? When I get really angry, I tend to start swearing in Gaelic - they were the first words I picked up on as a kid, haha!

I just like anthems for some reason... besides, singing it got me free beers where I was staying in England so I just kept doing it, you know, just in case. Then again singing bachata also got me free cocktails. Perhaps immigrants in England just like giving away free alcohol? xD

LOL fair enough then, sing whatever you want! And people do like to buy pretty girls drinks over here; in fact, I'm not sure I've ever had to buy myself more than one on an evening out, which, yay!
