Hello lovely flist!

I feel as though I have been away for ages and ages, but I'm back now, so I thought I'd tell you all about what's been keeping me away. :)
I honestly don't know what it is about me, but for some reason technology seems to really hate my guts. It's like computer-y things see me coming and are all like, "ha, we're gonna stop working now, just because something about you really pisses me off!" I have a good laptop, see. My brother is a computer expert, and he knows his shit, and he picked this out for me because he knew it would be the right thing for what I wanted to do on it. So the fucker should work fine, but because it's me, things go wrong with it. Like, constantly. First, the damn thing kept freezing on me, and the only way to get it to work would be to rip the battery out of the back and let it start up again. Naturally, I got a little bit frustrated with that at and one point I lost my temper and kind of sort of put my fist through the screen. So, Ben fixed that for me and after that everything was working fine, until one day two weeks ago when the thing decided to give me the Blue Screen of Death. I hadn't even done anything! I literally just walked away from it for a second, and when I came back the damn thing was just sitting there, refusing to work. I feel like it was laughing at me. So, Ben was too busy with work to fix it straight away, so I used his desktop computer for a while, but then that started freezing on me too and eventually Ben told me I wasn't allowed to touch it ever again. So I have been sans computer for almost two weeks, and do you know how hard it is to type on my fucking phone? Anyway, Ben managed to fix it last night, and it needed an entire system reboot (or something, I don't even know) which means that I've lost absolutely everything. All of my passwords, my internet banking codes, my fic bookmarks, oh, God. I'm going to have to read them all all over again, and start actually bookmarking them on AO3, because this is the third time I've lost my folders and I think I'm going to cry.
Also, for some reason the reboot has switched out my speech marks with my @ button, and it's very confusing. I just, why, technology? Why do you hate me so much?
On a much happier note, I went on holiday last week! It was very exciting for me, because this is the first holiday I've ever had without any children! My parents had the girls for the week, and Ben and I drove down to Cornwall. We stayed in a gorgeous B&B, right on the seafront, and we went surfing and swimming pretty much every day, it was wonderful. The weather was mostly fantastic, and I got a lot of sunbathing in, and we ate scrummy seafood and fish and chips on the beautiful beach, and just basically had a great time. I was a bit concerned before we went that without the kids, we wouldn't have anything to talk about, but we got on surprisingly well. We only had one argument the entire time (which is awesome for us, it's like record breaking), and we never ran out of things to talk about. Which might sound silly when you think that we've been together for 12 years, but having never had a moment without at least one child around us as a buffer, we seriously didn't know how well we would get on together when it was just us. Hopefully, this bodes well for our relationship once the kids are all grown up and moved out, so yay for us.
Oh also, for the Merlin watchers out there, we went to Tintagel one day, the legendary birthplace of King Arthur! We climbed all over the ruins of the castle, and we went down to the cove and peeked inside Merlin's cave, and I actually recognised the spot where they filmed the caves with Tristan and Isolde in season 3! It was very cool, and absolutely beautiful, and now I am the proud owner of a Pendragon hoodie. Also, the sausage rolls sold in the Pendragon Cafe are the best things I've ever eaten, it was like a religious experience.
Before all the crap with my laptop, I was super busy with
hd_collab. I had a great time, both writing and modding, and I'm already excited about doing it all over again next year. The other mods are wonderful people, so awesome to work with, and so kind and helpful when I got overwhelmed with decision making anxiety, or when I had yet another issue with the dreaded technology. Seriously, I love you guys, and I can't wait for our next fest!
I signed up for
hd_erised (because of course) and I got my assignment! I'm so freaking excited about it, because my match is perfect, just like last year. Seriously, I don't understand how they do it, all the mods must be absolute geniuses. I already have the perfect story idea, and I've even started mapping it out in my head - and writing it there too, because sleep is for the weak and the people who don't have an awesome assignment, okay.
So yeah, that's been me the past couple of weeks, and now I'm going shopping for school supplies and try to catch up on all the laundry I still have left to do, and dye my hair again because all the swimming in the sea washed out the hot pink colour so now I'm a vaguely orangey-blonde and it's hella weird. I think I'll go violet next...
Hope y'all are having a great weekend! <3
