O Captain, My Captain

Deaths of celebrities always give me a touch of sadness. I always have a moment of sorrow, for the life lost, for the people they've left behind. But this time is different, because Robin Williams wasn't just a famous person to me, he was a friend. Although I've never met him, he gave to me something that everybody craves; the knowledge that someone out there feels just like you do, someone who understands. He made me feel like it was okay to be who I am, and let me know that my mental illness is not all the world would ever see. He was so important to me, and I feel as though I've lost something truly profound today.
O captain, my captain. I love you, and I will miss you, and I hope that God tells you all the corny jokes you could wish for.
